India

India has developed into one of the largest cost-competitive technical workforce nations, conducive to foreign investment environment.

Aided by a very stable democratic environment over the last 50 years of independence, the huge pool of talented technical workforce is its biggest strength.

With the government consistently reinforcing its commitment to the IT industry with its simple and encouraging policies and a vibrant economy, added to the ready availability of technical manpower, India has every reason to be Gung-Ho about its prospects.

  • Software production in India
  • Nokia and its partners are establishing big operations

Computer Science

Sudha Murty has had a long journey. She was a brilliant student & was always very fond of Engineering. "I wanted to prove that girls can be better at engineering than boys", she says. She started the Computer Science Dept. of Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for Women. It grew to be one of the best Computer Science departments under Bangalore University.

Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs are the Essence of the digital economy. Their ideas are constantly setting and breaking the boundaries of the fastest moving business in the history of capitalism. Some are serial successes. Most fail. But their dynamism, even when they crash and burn is the spur that keeps wary established businesses on their toes.

Doing business in the old economy was extremely difficult, particularly in India. Usually the people born in business families, those with influential connections and those belonging to trading groups could set up new businesses easily. Intelligent young graduates usually would settle for jobs in good companies.

Product development — though small in size — is one of the fastest-growing segments of the offshore services market. As companies across a range of verticals, from aerospace to medical instruments, grapple to add more value-added software to their product while cutting their overall research and development (R&D) costs, this offshore segment will expand dramatically. Its unique requirements mean that it will develop separately from traditional outsourced IT work.

The overall offshore product development market will consist of three different segments: 1) R&D and embedded, 2) classic engineering, and 3) software. However, taking product development offshore is not a quick fix for firms. The organizational resistance, the hurdles to running a successful captive, and the process investment needed to manage third-party work half a world away dictate that firms plan a three-plus-year migration.

The introduction of Internet and the consequential digital economy has made it much easier for young entrepreneurs to challenge the established businesses. This activity has been at a high pace at Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India.

The Bangalore IT revolution began with the multi-national TI (Texas Instruments) in 1984. Today, the IT industry has 75,000 professionals in Bangalore. Almost 40% of the business happens in extremely high-tech areas like Integrated Circuit Design (IC), Systems Software and Communications Software.

Technology Parks

The entire electrical wiring for the world’s largest aeroplane, the Airbus A380 will be developed in Bangalore. Bangalore is home to many achievers, one of them is Suhas Gopinath, the world’s youngest CEO Suhas Gopinath.

Collaboration

We are heading for a deeper collaboration with our partners in Europe. But that wan't be enough. There's a need to build contacts to new areas like Bangladesh, India and China.

North America is a natural source of mutual interests. New things happen outside our national borders, cross-border collboration is easier than ever. We are only limited by our mental mindsets.
