This wiki is about HVK's journey from being a Corporate Soldier to Entrepreneur. I have a notebook at Keep My Notes here where new ideas and inputs are located as drafts. | Despite the fact that Digital Villages websites have been around since 1999, this is the time (summer 2006) to explore and test social networking and popular PBwiki and some other wiki websites. Read the collection of short stories that are in a continuous development. These storeis will give you insights into history, present and future developments. Wow! It takes time to accept the digital tools. This could be a good way to go for branding and getting some recognition in the niche where we are operating. It might be guaranteed if we submit something useful to our partners, clients and readers on a regular basis. | |

Business Plan
Welcome to Digital Villages Wiki: It's a flexible, powerful, secure, yet simple web-based collaboration platform. We use Wiki as
- a project development space,
- a document management system,
- a knowledge base or as
- a groupware tool
It can be used on either an intranet or on the Internet.
Managing growth
As businesses progress from small to midsize organizations, their dependency on IT solutions also increases. If you work for a midsize firm, your company has probably already automated several core business functions, such as inventory management, customer relationship management, and Web site content management. As these systems become more critical to keeping the business running smoothly and to ensuring customer satisfaction, they increasingly dictate that service desk personnel must handle problems more efficiently and effectively.
Innovation
As a PBwiki user, I'm receiving the PBwiki newsletter. Here's what's fresh and new in August 2006:
- New features for your wiki
- PBwiki hosts over 100,000 wikis!
- Seven surprising ways to use your wiki
- Quick wiki tips
- Lessongs from Kiko will tell you that new ventures aren't always easy
- Semantic Web Search
PBwiki crossed it's 100,000th wiki recently! Sites like this on are making it the biggest wiki farm online. It appears they have many, many new things coming out to make this wiki simpler to edit, share, and use. PBwiki is growing fast, but every wiki matters...so please tell your friends! We're a part of the evolution. Read the Forum.
Collaboration
Marketing
Business marketing is one of the most important parts that your business needs to be addressed with careful attention and proactive thoughts. Many artists create art but when it comes to marketing and selling their work, well, that is another story. Organizations often get stuck in neutral when it comes to marketing. Sometimes, you just need a kickstart.
Open source
Web 2.0 open sourced and interactive innovators are dealing in disruptive technologies. They can compete and destroy anything that came before them, no matter how big it is today. Just because somehting or service is the dominant player now, that doesn't mean that a good idea cannot take over the market in a very short time. There are plenty of examples. Let me give a few:
Linux
Legal activist Lawrence Lessig says what Linux has done for operating systems, the Internet should do for content. At the Linux World Conference and Expo, Lessig urged attendees to use the Creative Commons as a route to "free culture."
Six Apart
Mena Trott is president and a co-founder of Six Apart and introduces herself: "Mena’s Corner is my chance to show the inner workings of a start-up and give the outside world a glimpse into our challenges, our achievements, and our professional passions."
North America
Due to the significant capital and operational investments made by companies in information systems – investments that impact the bottom line – knowing the condition of these and social collaboration tools is vital. Internet based information systems are generally robust, but they can fail prematurely.
What did we learn from the US operation?
- Do your homework
- You must be very determined
- You have to be interested in every detail
- You get involved in so many fascinating things
- Technology enabled service businesses are becoming very important
- Relationships between the new company and large corporations
- The start-up: how to do things with a very small staff
- Today: you have to rethink prices in the context of web services
- Venture Capital: US VCs invested in Skype, which was based in Europe
Web 2.0
We use wikis, and / or other group-editable Web pages, to turbo-charge collaboration. Modern firms are using button-down, casual social-networking services such as LinkedIn (we too) and Visible Path (new to me) to:
We can now spend the time in front of our computers looking at market, social and demographic trends, and painting pictures of what might be the next big thing, instead of flying around the world and spending our time in hotel rooms.
- The learning takes place when the network members interact with each other
The Web 2.0's essential appeal is empowerment. Increasing computer power, nearly ubiquitous high-speed Internet connections, and ever-easier Web 2.0 services give users unprecedented power to do it themselves. It doesn't hurt that many of these services are free.
- The need of venture money rises when the organization starts to grow
Networking
We all know the value of networking and we feel we should be doing more of it. Unfortunately, for too many of us the very thought of attending an event where we have to mix and mingle with total strangers is enough to drive us into hiding until it's all over!
The network has become the centre of innovation. The creation of knowledge is crucial to improve the competitive position of enterprises and regions. Furthermore, the knowledge transfer and utilization are typical for innovation networks formed by knowledge intensive enterprises and higher education and research institutions.
- Informal networks based on shared experience,
- Project networks with short-term combinations to accomplish specific tasks,
- Regional networks in which spatial proximity helps sustain a common community and * Business networks as purposive, strategic alliances between two parties.
- RFID
After you have defined your goal and identified the next tasks and actions, prepare some time to actually work on them.
Housing
The U.S. householder faces a double problem. Interest rates are rising. And so are his mortgage payments.
The U.S. housing market is now tracing a clearly downward trajectory that economists say will steepen as interest rates rise, raising chances of a recession by early 2007.
Merrill Lynch economists say there is now about a 40 percent chance of a recession in the first half of 2007 - even without a widely anticipated 25 basis-point Federal Reserve rate hike this week.
"As much as half of U.S. economic growth is now directly or indirectly related to housing sales, construction and consumer spending fueled by home equity extraction," said Sheryl King, senior economist at Merrill Lynch.
Internet
Believers in the Internet as a free flowing, end-to-end service were talking about the end of it all today, after a Net neutrality amendment to telecom legislation was voted down in a Senate committee yesterday on an 11-11 tie.
- "Security was the No. 1 investment we made in IE 7, in terms of our development resources," Tony Chor, Microsoft's group program manager for the browser, said in an interview.
Wi-Fi
It does exist, whether Tempe residents know it or not. In fact, the city's Wi-Fi project is already further along than most other municipal projects designed to offer broadband Internet access.
And cities ranging from Anaheim, Calif., which is scheduled to unveil its Wi-Fi network Thursday, to Philadelphia would do well to study what has gone wrong and right for Tempe's ambitious project.
Two years ago, city planners decided to offer Wi-Fi to Tempe's 160,000 residents. Without using any tax dollars, they wanted to roll broadband service over the city's 40 square miles and tap into a Wi-Fi network for its city services.
Design
Now organisations can pool or exchange resources and knowledge, and develop new ideas and skills through inter-organisational networks. A single firm has seldom the necessary skills and competences to create globally competitive innovations in the global economy based on horizontal and vertical disintegration, subcontracting and outsourcing.

IT
To improve their information supply chain, many organizations have embarked on traditional enterprise application integration (EAI) projects that promise the seamless integration of systems within the enterprise.
EAI projects are notoriously difficult to deliver on time and within the budget, however. They require the work and experience of vendors, which cost money, and employees, some of whom may no longer be available.
Join to discuss the challenges of traditional EAI projects and how enterprises can streamline their information supply chain without taking on such a costly and time-consuming process.
The traditional method of building IT infrastructure specifically for new applications leads to disconnected silos of information and resources. Aligning these silos using ITIL processes and a Configuration Management Database to
- integrate data and workflow can help an IT organization
- achieve its goals by increasing the productivity of the IT organization,
- delivering IT services that meet the needs of the business more efficiently, and
- extracting greater value from existing investments.
- Small business IT base
Collaboration
Google Notebook is allowing me to clip, cut, paste, remix, edit, publish, annotate share... any kind of content submitting them to the different blogs I'm currently contributing to.
- A tool built upon Drupal
- The project space from iCamp based on Next Space platform from Permalink
- My personal blogs in Blogger
- Collaboration is a learning process
