Bangladesh

Size of Bangladesh economy is very small. Size of the population of the country is very big. In the past nobody in the world noticed us because of the tiny economy. We do not show up in the world map because we do not feature as a serious market for buying or selling.

New Technology

All these can change now. Bangladesh can become a familiar name in the world market if we take advantage of the new technologies, particularly Information Technology, which are changing the world dramatically. Stage is already set. In the previous decade the world has just seen the tip of these changes. Next decade will unfold scenarios which will redefine the lives of people around the world.

Fast Change

Technologies are all interrelated. If there is a dramatic change in one technology, immediately impact of it is felt in many other directions. At this moment Information Technology (IT) is the most dynamic sector. It is leading the way. Other technologies are getting reshaped because of fast changes in IT.

New Economies

IT is helping the rich countries to expand their economies at a sustained and fast speed. These economies are assuming features which are so distinct from their previous structures that it has become necessary to call these economies as New Economies. It is obvious that the rich economies are the ones which are benefiting the most from the IT. Except for some small spill-over effects here and there, there is very little that IT has offered to the people in the poor countries. But this does not have to be so in future.

Direct Contact

IT eliminates middlemen. It eliminates middlemen in the value-chain when it comes to production and marketing. IT eliminates middlemen in the knowledge-chain when it comes to understanding the economy and the society. In the process it creates not only a New Economy, but it can also create a New Society. Razib the great blogger

We’ve interviewed the great blogger Razib Ahmed before, and now this guy is out there and getting real media coverage. As Razib has told us, he’s living life in the slow lane, blogging from a dialup account, but it isn’t stopping him from always getting more famous online. Razib’s latest mention comes from The Times, a leading UK newspaper. While everyone is sure of China’s impending status of 21st century superpower, India won’t be far behind. The blog Indian Raj is so sure of this that it takes as its subtitle The ascendancy of India as an economic world power. It has news updates that cover foreign investment, privatisation and outsourcing in a far from dull manner. I think this show us two things:

  1. Razib is a great blogger and
  2. Anyone can do it if they put their mind to it.
  3. Congratulations Razib, and keep up the great work.

Journalism

Besides this I have some past expereince of Teaching English Language in the University level and also being a Research Assistant for MBA department in a University. About Call Centers. I read a story at the forum below: A friend of mine, who had gone to our neighbouring country India in the early 1990s to finish his higher education on engineering, is now involved with telecommunication business. Last week, while talking to me he observation how much India is earning now through call centres. When he was there he saw a small company teaching young men and women how to talk smartly and informatively on receiving phone calls from people at home and abroad. The young employees were not very educated and their English knowledge was not remarkable. However, the trainers of the young employees every day showed them some social English movies to improve their communicative English knowledge and to understand Western culture, customs and etiquette. My friend at that time was amused at the thought that the young people were being shown movies and taught how to receive phone calls. He felt such training to be unrealistic idea motivating the employees of that small company. But while he had smiled that day when watching their non-conventional classes. Today he realises and acknowledges that the endeavour had converted the idea of call centre into a flourishing business. Today call centres are contributing to India's economy gigantically. Western business entrepreneurs are communicating with Indian call centres far more than other developing countries since one of the plus points is that the people of that country can speak English. Very recently a few big companies and banks of our country, Bangladesh, has moved towards opening call centres. Customer's service is the one of biggest components in making profits from business. For ensuring best customers service there is no better way other then servicing from call centres for 24 hours. Currently an urge for sustainability is drawing our big companies in opening up call centres, although in the context of international business, we have little claim to success in the call centre business or the business of off-shoring services.

SME and Design

Bangladesh has observed great enthusiasm in ICT and Internet sector during the last decade. In 2003 Bangladesh obtained 88th position in terms of the number of Internet users. In 2002 broad band Internet was introduced in the country. In 2006 Bangladesh will be connected with submarine cable. There is a slow but consistent growth in the internet sector of the country. There is no doubt that Internet is the most efficient way of doing business. In order to communicate with any business organization, inside or outside the country now days, all it requires is few simple clicks. To survive and compete in the present day business world internet has become indispensable.

Garmet

Keeping the present trend in mind, Bangladeshi business organizations such as, garments factories (the major foreign exchange earners of the country), different small and medium scale organizations are shifting toward web based business or e-commerce.
